--As of Anthrocon 2000 (Jul 3-5 2000) I've made two modifications that apply to all characters, at the suggestion of Richard Chandler of the anthropomorphic APA known as "Gallery". Previously, I had drawn the eyes of all my characters close-set, as they seemed to evolve in that direction, and also that it was the antithesis of the typical "cute" character as defined in the Preston Blair series of art books (i.e. large head, widely spaced eyes, long torso, short legs). Over the years, I've slowly enlarged the size of the eyes as I added stuff like reflections and shaded irises. What I overlooked during this period was a defect that I've often attributed to Japanese animated characters: namely that the size of the eyes implied more volume occupied than there was space in the skull for. As Mr. Chandler put it, "The eyeballs would intersect inside the skull". To that end, I have increased the eye-to-eye spacing to at least 75% of their eye width (previously it was 50% or less). The other modification was to reduce the apparent size of the pupils to a little less tha 2/3 the size indicated in the picture presiding over the "Multi-Character" gallery, to avoid a dilated appearance that suggested drug use (comment also attributed to R.Chandler).
--At a point in the recent past so far undefined, I have taken the step to
lower the exit point of all characters' tails in order to better reflect
that the tail is an extension of the spine. Previously, the tail was positioned
so it's exit point would intersect the waistline of the trousers worn by
the characters, so these would not need to be modified with a tail hole or
similar accomodation. The waistline would simply duck under the tail, and
the backside thus exposed would be covered by the shirt. Tucked-in shirts
would have to remain un-tucked where they crossed the tail. Upon further
examination this was deemed anatomically unworkable and the tail exit point
was lowered to approximatley the level of the hip joint, with an slot built
into the trousers to permit the tails' exit, and a loop or sleeve of some
sort over the tail to help hold the pants up whenever the character's position
dictated that this area be visible.
-Body Color: Tanya's body color was white until about July, 1999 when an off-white color was assigned to her for a proposed application to Yerf.
-Body Color: Tina's original color was grey until about April,1999 when it was changed to a light brown for a pic intended for my "portable information archive".
-Hair: Sherryl's original hairstyle is seldom seen now, replaced by one that doesn't defy being drawn in a side view.
-Accessories: Included cycling shades,
painter's cap (he was initially drawn without a head of hair), and digital
stopwatch, which was a common accessory at the time he was created. I dropped
it from his design when I started wearing one, (the character doesn't represent
me) and remained missing after this accessory went out of style. The shades
and painter's cap also fell by the wayside.
-Tight pants?: (second and third pix)
Actually they aren't. They're supposed to be nylon warmup pants. I
just didn't know how to draw loose pants legs sized for a skinny physique.
In the process, I let too much calf contour show through them.
-Body Color: Roland's original color was a light grey (Prismacolor Cold Grey 10%) until it was changed to a light tan in August 1999 for a future application to the Yerf archive .This change (as well as the others) remains in effect till I have a good reason to tinker with it again.
-Paucity of Pics: There isn't a lot of material during this period, since Todd was created toward the end of it.
-Paucity Part Deux: There aren't a whole
lot of pix of Todd at this point either...'cause he's always with Tina. Usually
the two are depicted together, their being an item and all. So there are
more images of Todd with Tina in the "Multi" gallery.
-Leg Warmers?: Nope. Early on,
the presence of shoes was always implied, even if they weren't always drawn
in. As such, whenever socks were depicted, they simply ended at the ankle.
None of the characters ever actually wore leg warmers with ordinary street
attire, though it may have looked that way at times.
What's in a name?: Unusual-sounding name, innit? Where did I get such a thing? Hint: spell it backwards, then look it up as a movie title.
Didn't exist then
Didn't exist then either
Head Shot: Nei'chelle's head shape was altered to place more volume in her muzzle as would be proper for a skunk as opposed to a feline, which was what I was accustomed to drawing.
Shake it: Added volume to her hips, making them better rounded. Nei'chelle officially has more shape to her than the skinny portrait in her profile pic. Also added a sort-of starburst pattern to her front white fur at the hips.
